No Dialogue Copy is an operationally restrictive misfeature built into some systems that prevents the operator from copying the contents of a messagebox or dialoguebox. The ability to copy messages from a messagebox or dialoguebox onto the clipboard may be required for the purpose of copying the information into a document search tool, or for pasting into an incident report document.
Some users may consider this restrictive element to be an annoyance, because it makes it necessary for users to retype information that is already available on the screen.
Affected systems Edit
The following systems contain operational restrictions that prevent copying dialogue contents:
- Microsoft Windows - Some error messages are several pages long, and cannot be copied onto the clipboard
- Mozilla Browser - The browser may pop up dialogue boxes containing messages that cannot be copied to the clipboard
- wine - Error messages that are displayed within dialogue boxes provided by wine cannot be copied onto the clipboard
